The Sanskrit word “Veda” means “knowledge”. Vedic Mathematics is the ancient, unique way of learning Mathematics. It helps us to carry out calculations based on simple principles and rules, with which any mathematical problems such as arithmetic, algebra, geometry, trigonometry can be solved mentally. It is totally based on 16 Sutras and 13 Upa sutras which are given by Bharati Krishna Tirtha who is founder of Vedic Mathematics. These Sutras are given in word form for instance: By One More than the One Before and Vertically and Crosswise. The main intention / objective of Vedic Mathematics is to make mathematics very easy and interesting. This Vedic system not only does give striking general & special methods, previously unknown to modern mathematics, but also it is far more coherent and integrated as a system.
Vedic Mathematics is also known as system of mental mathematics. Many of the Vedic math’s methods are new, striking, simple and also interrelated so that division, for instance, can be seen as an easy reversal of the simple multiplication method, similarly with squaring and square roots, which is in complete contrast to the modern system, because the Vedic methods are different to regular conventional methods. To gain familiarity with Vedic mathematic system, it’s always best to practice the techniques as you go along.
